Those that have medical assistant jobs will be the first ones to tell you that the salary they're receiving is increasing each year. There's an upward trend in the medical assistant salary amount, partly because these assistants now have many additional tasks that are given to them. There was a time that medical assistants are expected to perform administrative tasks only, things that a secretary or an office clerk were able to perform. Consequently, their medical assistant salary is within the salary range of the secretary and office clerk.

These days, medical assistants are performing other clinical tasks also, provided they have the necessary training for such tasks. Clinical medical assistants need to undergo additional training and education in order to do those duties well. Even if they're under the physician or other health practitioners' supervision, there are some State laws that require sufficient training before a medical assistant be allowed to perform tasks such as administering electrocardiograms, drawing blood sample for tests, removing sutures, and other tasks. The medical assistant salary of an individual that performs clinical tasks is usually higher than those that do administrative ones only. The employer take into consideration the more complex tasks that the clinical medical assistant do and the additional training and education that the assistant undertook.

These more advanced training in clinical medical assisting may include coursework in biology, pharmacology, CPR, anatomy, health, and medical terminology. Of course, they will also be taught in administrative tasks such as bookkeeping, office procedures, using computers, and medical ethics. Preferably, choose a training program that will teach you all aspect of medical assisting, from administrative tasks to clinical ones. You may or you may not use all of the things that you will learn in this program but that's alright, because this will prepare you for any tasks or responsibilities that they may give you in your actual work. Also, those that have finished formal trainings are also given higher medical assistant salary, so that should be an incentive enough for you to sign up and finish a training program.

But remember though, you will be given a higher than the average medical assistant salary because much is expected from you now, as oppose to doing administrative work only. Physicians and your patients have a higher expectation from those that are given the more complex clinical tasks. But you shouldn't worry too much about this because you should be adequately trained to capably perform those tasks. Just always bear in mind the health of the patient is in your hands now.
